An individual convicted of a crime has the right to appeal that conviction to an appellate court. There are strict deadlines and important strategy decisions associated with the appellate process. The involvement of appellate counsel as soon as possible is important.  The appellate process is distinct from trial. You need an attorney experienced in handling such appeals to protect your rights and navigate the complexities of that process.   Having a lawyer who has experience with and can walk you through the appeals process is critical. As part of this process, attorneys representing both parties are permitted to submit legal briefs to the appellate court. They may also be permitted to give oral arguments. You need an attorney experienced with crafting both written and appellate oral arguments.
