Tucker Arensberg Welcomes Ryan Gailey to Criminal Defense Practice

by | Sep 16, 2026

PITTSBURGH, PA, September 16, 2026. Tucker Arensberg, P.C. is pleased to announce that Ryan Gailey has joined the firm as an attorney in its Litigation Department, where he will focus his practice on criminal defense.

Ryan brings an uncommon perspective to his criminal defense practice, having spent nearly a decade in corrections and law enforcement before becoming an attorney. His firsthand understanding of the criminal justice system now informs his approach to defending clients, from the initial review of evidence through trial.

Before entering private practice, Ryan served in several law enforcement roles, including as a Detective Captain where he investigated major crimes, such as homicide, aggravated assault, robbery and sexual assault. Today, he draws on that investigative background when reviewing discovery, examining how evidence was developed and identifying aspects of an investigation that may warrant further scrutiny.

As a defense attorney, Ryan represents clients throughout the criminal litigation process in state and federal court. His trial experience includes securing a homicide acquittal in Commonwealth v. Decarlos Warren and subsequently obtaining appellate relief involving two aggravated assault convictions in the same case. Ryan has also served as appointed criminal defense counsel in Lawrence County.

“Ryan has seen the criminal justice system from both sides, first as a police officer and detective and now as a defense attorney. He brings that experience to the courtroom with a strong commitment to his clients and a professional, thoughtful approach to advocacy. We are excited to have him join the firm.” said Stephen Colafella, Shareholder Attorney, Criminal Defense.

Ryan earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Western New England University School of Law, where he concentrated in criminal defense and received seven CALI Excellence for the Future Awards. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies, with a concentration in Jurisprudence, from California University of Pennsylvania.

Ryan’s work in law enforcement earned him the Patrolman James Naim Award from the Beaver County District Attorney and a Distinguished Service Award in law enforcement.

Ryan is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Allegheny County Bar Association and Beaver County Bar Association.
